Gloria took her first yoga class in 1969 and left convinced she couldn’t do yoga because she couldn’t sit in lotus position. More than forty years later, at age 62, she began practicing consistently, and discovered that yoga had far less to do with achieving a shape than she had imagined.
After retiring from a career as a public-school art teacher, Gloria completed yoga teacher training at Hot House in Iowa City and began teaching. Her path eventually led her to Ashtanga yoga, including a month of practice in Mysore, India, the birthplace of Ashtanga.
Today, Gloria’s classes combine physical practice with the broader teachings of yoga, including the wisdom of the Yoga Sutras. She encourages students to focus on how a posture feels rather than how it looks, believing that every body is unique and every practice should honor that uniqueness.
Gloria believes yoga is for anyone—regardless of age, flexibility, or experience—and that the practice continues long after we step off the mat.
